He was born in a nursing home in Eaton, NY. My Uncle George tells the story of waking up alone, which never happened in a busy house, and looking around. A neighbor came and told him there was going to be a new baby. Philip was much beloved and spoiled by parents and siblings alike. He was the only child, who when banished from the dining room table for any reason was given a bologna sandwich while he sat on the kitchen steps. The other children complained that nicety was not provided for them. Philip was a three letter man in high school , and played basketball, baseball, and track. He was scouted for baseball and basketball, and went to Hartwick College . Right before he was drafted into the Korean War, he married Barbara Jean Winslow on Aug 22, 1953. They had 4 children Debbie (stillborn 3 Jan 1955) Rebecca (10 May 1957), Jeffrey (8 August 1959), and Michael (21 May 1962). After the war Philip continued his education at Colgate College, using the G.I .bill. He graduated and began a long career in education: first as a high school history teacher, then Jr. High guidance counselor, and finally a principal at the same jr. high.( Strough) Philip was active in community theater, and appeared in almost every Neil Simon play performed. After retirement, he opened Never Unfinished Antiques, a shop where he refinished and sold antiques, but mostly offered a comfortable place to hang out and tell stories. He married Barbara Reeser Bidwell on Sept. 2, 1993. They had a wonderful life until his decent into dementia forced him into special care at Betsy Ross nursing home, where he succumbed 15 January 2018. He was a wonderful father, beloved husband, and possibly one of the most generous and funny people on the planet.
