View this person on FamilySearch to see this information.<br> Additional information: LifeSketch:James Valentine Howlett was born to Elizabeth Howlett (1824-1897) in February of 1842. His father was George Farrow. Elizabeth and George did not marry. James was raised in the home of his grandparents, James and Elizabeth (Browne) Howlett. This fact was told to me by 2 of James Valentine Howlett's grandchildren, Elizabeth Powlesland and Leonard Boast, now both deceased. It is verified by the 1851 & 1861 England and Wales Censuses for Horstead, Norfolk, England for Elizabeth (Browne) Howlett. Elizabeth Howlett (1824-1897) supported her son in his grandmother's home by working as a domestic servant as is noted in the 1851 & 1861 Censuses for her. James married Elizabeth Woodcock 21 October 1862. The family story is that James was not doing well supporting his family in England. He borrowed money from friends and family to finance his trip to America. He also paid back every penny to those who had helped him. They immigrated with their young family to the United States through Canada in 1869. There is an 1870 United States Census for them in 1870 in Stockbridge, Madison County, New York. It was a farm that his brother-in-law John Woodcock had found for him. James was able to buy a farm in the Town of Eaton, Village of Morrisville where he and his family lived out their lives. He became a prominent citizen in the community. He died in Syracuse in 1929 at the home of his daughter Hannah Howlett Hale. I tried to mention some pertinent sources in this and hopefully will be back to add these sources to this tree.
